Thanks to partnership efforts between Transylvania County, Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA), and the Asheville Regional Housing Consortium (ARHC), downpayment assistance is now available for income-eligible, first-time homebuyer residents of Transylvania County. WCCA has been awarded $7,700 from Transylvania County and $23,100 of HOME Funds from the ARHC to help income-eligible, first-time homebuyers achieve homeownership.
The program is designed to help low to moderate income workers secure first mortgages by assisting with downpayment and closing costs issues. Firefighters, law enforcement, childcare workers, CNA’s, and service personnel are likely to be within the income limits. For example, a two-person household with total annual income below $36,300 would qualify. Income limits are determined by household size. In addition to meeting the income guidelines, eligible applicants must have a valid Contract for Purchase and satisfactorily complete a Homebuyer Education course. Funds will be awarded on a “first come, first qualified” basis.
