To experience the arts and cultural events of the Brevard area, look no further than the Brevard Music Center.
The Brevard Music Center, a summer institute and festival, is situated in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. BMC is one of America's premier summer training programs for young musicians with more than 400 students enrolled at the Music Center to perform and to study with members of a distinguished artist faculty.
ORCHESTRA Orchestra forms the heart of Brevard's festival, and a cast of renowned conductors, both American and international, will lead three different orchestras through some of the most important and best-loved music in the repertoire.
All of the orchestra programs occur in BMC's open-sided Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium, which creates a special “open air” experience for listeners without giving up the impact of a concert hall.
OPERA Opera has been a major part of the Brevard Music Center for more than 40 years. Opera titles for 2012 will include, Puccini: La bohème, Gilbert and Sullivan: H.M.S. Pinafore, Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia, Poulenc: Dialogues des carmélites. and in the 76th anniversary season Brevard’s Janiec Opera Company performs in the Porter Center at Brevard College. This venue allows the singers to perform without amplification, so that listeners can experience voices in their pure form.”
CHAMBER MUSIC AND RECITALS Chamber music and recitals play a significant role at the Brevard Music Center. Twelve chamber music concerts will be presented in various venues.
FESTIVAL June 22 - August 5, 2012 2012 marks 66th annual festival. The 2012 season will include 18 different orchestra programs. Conductors appearing in 2012 include Keith Lockhart, Artistic Director, JoAnn Falletta, Principal Guest Conductor, Ken Lam, Resident Conductor, Matthias Bamert, and Julian Kuerti.
FIRST MONDAYS CONCERT SERIES To share music with the community throughout the year, the Brevard Music Center presents free concerts to the public on the first Mondays of each month, October through May (except January). February 7: Steve Cohen, clarinet ~ Katherine Palmer, piano March 5: The Blair String Quartet April 2: Trio Solis May 7: Georgia Woodwind Quintet
